Troy was a city in modern day Turkiye, originating sometime in the Bronze Age. Troy was a city at the center of trade and politics for a time. It was only after its defeat at the hands of Greece and the Bronze Age collapse that Troy was relegated to the legends of Homer. The eponymous Trojan war was fought over Helen of Troy, a beautiful Spartan woman taken from her home by a Trojan prince. Homer blames Helen of Troy for the war, but it’s likely there were political, cultural, and financial reasons behind the great war.
